Your New Company/Role:
As an established boutique Accounting & Tax firm, my client is looking for a Tax Practice Manager to join their growing team. This is a permanent full time opportunity for someone who has at least 4 years and more experience in public firm/business services dealing with tax and accounting services. Must have valid work rights as sponsorship is not part of the package.
About the Opportunity / Responsibilities:
As the Tax Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing a broad portfolio of clients, providing high-level tax compliance and advisory services across various entity types including companies, trusts, partnerships, sole traders, and SMSFs. You will supervise a team of accountants and intermediate staff, ensuring timely, accurate and compliant tax work while fostering a high-performance culture aligned with the firm’s values and strategic objectives.
- Manage end-to-end tax compliance services, including preparation and review of BAS, IAS, income tax returns, financial statements, and other regulatory submissions
- Mentor, supervise, and develop junior and intermediate accountants. Allocate work, conduct technical reviews, and provide feedback to ensure consistent quality and growth
- Act as the primary tax advisor for a portfolio of clients, offering tailored tax planning strategies and structuring advice that align with client goals and legislative requirements
- Ensure compliance with all relevant tax laws, ATO guidelines, and professional standards. Identify and mitigate tax-related risks for clients and the firm
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of taxation legislation, case law, and regulatory changes. Undertake technical research and provide guidance to staff and clients
- Oversee tax lodgement schedules and internal workflow systems to ensure deadlines are met and resources are optimised
- Provide advice and implement optimal business structures for tax efficiency, asset protection, and succession planning
- Implement and maintain systems and processes that enhance tax team efficiency, consistency, and compliance
- Work closely with the firm's directors on client strategy, technical issues, business development, and key decision-making
Ideal Profile
This opportunity is for someone who has experience within professional practice and has proven business service/taxation experience. You will also bring:
- Bachelor’s degree or above
- Part qualified or fully qualified (CA/CPA/CTA) or equivalent qualification with SMSF experience highly regarded
- Proven experience in a tax management role within an Australian public practice accounting firm
- Strong technical knowledge of Australian taxation laws across a broad range of industries and structures
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple client files, meet deadlines, and deliver exceptional service standards
- Great communication skills alongside experience in managing teams in a public practice setting
- Advanced proficiency with accounting software such as Xero, MYOB, Handisoft, and ATO portals
- High attention to detail, ethical integrity, and ability to work autonomously within a collaborative team culture.
Benefits
- Competitive salary; $90,000 - $120,000 + Super - (based on experience) - can go more for the right candidate
