On behalf of our Defence client who specialises in supplying advanced technologies to the Defence Industry which support a diverse range of platforms for land, sea and air domains, we are seeking an experienced Sustainment Manager for a full time, permanent position based in Canberra, ACT.
The Sustainment Manager occupies a critical leadership role within this organisation’s expanding Sustainment Department. Reporting to the Director of Sustainment this position is charged with the leadership and operational management of the team responsible for managing the sustainment lifecycle for all technology products within the assigned domain—Air, Land, Sea, or International.
This role entails comprehensive responsibility for contributing to, and leading the implementation of sustainment strategies that effectively address the long-term maintenance, upgrade, and support needs of defence systems. Accountable for the successful outcomes of the product lifecycle within their assigned domain.
As Sustainment Manager you will
... - Provide leadership, direction and support to a team responsible for the day to day management of sustainment and contract activities.
- Asset Management - Lifecycle Management, Maintenance Strategies: Implement proactive and predictive maintenance strategies that minimise downtime and extend the life of assets while ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.
- Sparing Strategies - Inventory Optimisation: Develop and maintain optimal inventory levels that balance cost with the risk of asset downtime, using data analytics to predict and respond to future needs. Critical Spares Management
- Budget Management - Financial Oversight: Manage the budget for sustainment activities and regularly review spending to align with strategic priorities and financial constraints.
- Performance Monitoring - KPI Development and Tracking: Develop relevant and impactful KPIs to measure the effectiveness of the sustainment operations and regularly track.
- Reporting and Analysis: Provide regular updates and comprehensive reports to Senior Leadership on sustainment activities, vendor management, contract compliance and team performance, highlighting successes and areas for improvement.
- Risk and Compliance Management - Identify Risks: Continuously identify potential risks and develop strategies to mitigate them. Crisis Management and Compliance monitoring and reporting
About You
- You will hold AGSVA Clearance: NV1
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Sustainment, Engineering, Operations Management, or a related field, Post Grad study will be highly regarded.
- Certifications in project management, asset management, contract management or related fields will be highly regarded.
- Have demonstrated experience in sustainment, maintenance management, or operations, particularly in a leadership role within defence, industry or technology sectors.
- Highly developed Technical Skills: Profound knowledge of advanced maintenance management systems and sustainment methodologies.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and manage a multidisciplinary team, with a strong focus on team building, strategic planning and resource management.
- Financial Acumen: Solid understanding of budgeting, financial and contract management in a technical environment.
