Randstad are currently working with a large Queensland Government Department to find an experienced SQL Developer for an initial 6 Month contract with possibility of extension. This role is based in Brisbane City with WFH flexibility.
Key Responsibilities:

- Maintain knowledge of a range of technical specialisms and provide expert advice regarding development, support and maintenance of departmental application, specifically, with a deep understanding of Microsoft SQL and Database Administration.
- Undertake system design, development and ongoing maintenance in relation to support, maintenance and enhancement of applications and systems, including developing strategies and criteria for the testing of application features using valid, structured test plans and documentation and ensuring that the interfaces of systems are operational, documented and understood.
- Designs, codes, tests, corrects and documents complex programs and scripts from agreed specifications, and subsequent iterations, using agreed standards and tools, to achieve a well-engineered result. Takes part in reviews of own work and leads reviews of colleagues' work.
- Investigates corporate data requirements, and applies quality assurance techniques, to establish, modify or maintain data structures and their associated components (entity descriptions, relationship descriptions, attribute definitions).
- Develops and implements standards, guidelines, strategies and processes to ensure the effective and efficient delivery of information technology that is aligned to departmental and whole of government business development.
The ideal candidate will possess the following:
- Proficiency in writing, optimizing, and debugging complex queries and stored procedures.
- Expertise in managing large datasets with efficient indexing and query performance.
- Deep understanding of database schema design, data modelling, and relationships between multiple tables.
- Experience with modularizing and refactoring legacy SQL code for scalability.
- Strong knowledge of database-specific tools and environments (e.g SQL Server Management Studio)
- Skilled in identifying performance bottlenecks and improving query efficiency.
- Proficient in handling complex data types and advanced SQL features.
- Expertise in implementing robust error handling and debugging techniques.
- Critical thinker with the ability to approach problems methodically and develop scalable solutions.
- Understanding of database security, ensuring procedures meet security and compliance standards.
- Ability to translate complex technical details into clear explanations for non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong documentation skills to ensure future maintainability of SQL code.
- Collaboration with business analysts and product owners to align SQL procedures with business needs.
