About the Organisation
The organisation provides expert services and support to various courts and judicial bodies in Victoria, including the Supreme Court, County Court, Magistrates’ Court, Children’s Court, Coroners Court, Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal, Judicial College of Victoria, and the Judicial Commission of Victoria. It offers a wide range of corporate functions, such as legal and governance, human resources, finance, facilities management, security, risk management, project management, business intelligence, communications, technology, and transcription services. The in-house Legal & Governance team within the Office of General Counsel provides legal advice on commercial, administrative law, and litigation matters, manages compliance functions, and supports effective internal governance across these judicial bodies.
About the Role
The role requires an adaptable and collaborative lawyer who is skilled in one or more of relevant areas of law, including commercial law, public law, administrative law and litigation and has a proven commitment to achieving high standards within a complex operating environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide legal advice and services on commercial law, public law, administrative law, and statutory interpretation.
- Manage complaints, disputes, claims, and litigation matters effectively.
- Conduct legal research, draft complex legal opinions, and ensure compliance with legislative obligations.
- Review and advise on policies and procedures, draft, negotiate, and review legal instruments including commercial contracts and property agreements.
- Stay informed about legal developments, update internal resources, and support the Manager, Legal and Governance, and General Counsel.
Requirements
- Full Australian Working Rights
- Government experience in a legal role
- 4-5 years post-qualification experience
- Statutory interpretation advantageous
