Your Opportunity
As a Rates Recovery Officer, you will play a critical role in managing the recovery of outstanding rates and charges to ensure financial stability and compliance for the council. This position offers a collaborative and dynamic environment where your expertise in rates recovery and customer service will contribute directly to the efficiency and success of the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the recovery of overdue rates and charges in accordance with relevant legislation and council policies.
- Provide advice and solutions to customers on payment arrangements, hardship programs, and legal recovery processes.
- Monitor and action overdue accounts, issuing notices, statements, and reminders.
- Maintain accurate rate records, ensuring all payment activities are updated in council systems.
- Liaise with property owners, internal departments, legal representatives, and external agencies to achieve positive recovery outcomes.
- Prepare regular reports on recovery activities, outstanding accounts, and key performance indicators.
- Assist in the management of customer inquiries and provide exceptional customer service to address ratepayer concerns.
- Ensure compliance with all local government and legislative requirements regarding revenue recovery processes.

The Ideal Candidate (Key Capabilities)
To succeed in this role, you will be assessed on the following key capabilities aligned with the responsibilities:
- Demonstrated experience and understanding of local government rates recovery processes, property levies, and revenue administration is desired
- Strong knowledge of relevant legislation, policies, and legal procedures associated with debt recovery and property rates.
- Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and communication skills to handle sensitive matters with tact, diplomacy, and professionalism.
- Proven ability to manage time effectively, prioritise workloads, and meet deadlines within a dynamic environment.
- High-level accuracy and attention to detail when managing financial records and ratepayer accounts.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and the ability to learn and operate large customer management systems.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to achieve resolutions that balance council objectives and customer needs.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain ethical, confidential, and professional standards when engaging with stakeholders.
