About the Role:
Our client is a NSW State government body that operates as an independent water regulator which oversees the enforcement of water management laws in NSW. They are currently seeking a Radio/Satellite Communications Specialist to join their Operational Technology team on a contract role until 30/06/25 with possible extensions.
Candidates for this position must be specialists with Remote Worker Safety Tracking Technologies (e.g Garmin inReach Messenger).
Candidates must also have previous experience in rural water management and regulation or other relevant fields, coupled with qualifications in science, engineering, hydrometrics, natural resource management, agriculture, surveying, instrumentation or other relevant disciplines.
The Radio/Satellite Communications Specialist is a member of the team responsible for innovation in and continuous improvement of operational technologies (OpTech), being those technologies, tools, systems and processes uses to collect evidence in the field, and to manage and process it. The role ensures that OpTech capabilities are effective and that they demonstrably contribute to regulatory capability.
The role will also provide advice and recommendations on complex technical matters to management and may be called on from time-to-time to provide expert opinion in investigations or prosecutions.
This important work follows on from investigations, assessments and analysis conducted by an internal working group in 2024. This working group made recommendations which you will act on. You will assess features, functions, costs, risks and effectiveness of the current remote worker safety tracking solution and of alternate solutions / approaches. You will run pilots of short-listed solutions. You will consult with internal stakeholders, WHS Committee representatives and with marketplace vendors. You will identify the preferred solution / approach and transition / implementation plans.

Please note this role is flexible on location, and candidates can be located anywhere in NSW. Candidates must have the willingness and flexibility to drive to, and work in remote locations in NSW including overnight stays.
