Our client is seeking a highly skilled HV Cable Engineer to join their Transmission and Cables team. While Perth is the preferred location, they are open to considering other locations for the right candidate.

Role Overview

This role will serve as a technical authority, providing leadership and strategic direction on large, multi-disciplinary projects. The successful candidate will offer expert technical support across all project phases, including feasibility studies, design, construction, commissioning, and post-construction activities.

Beyond technical expertise, this role requires strong project management skills, overseeing at least 2–3 projects concurrently, engaging directly with clients, and ensuring successful project delivery. You will play a key role in building and maintaining client relationships, supporting technical reviews, and promoting the company’s expertise within the industry.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the technical and design management for underground cable projects.
• Manage at least 2–3 projects simultaneously, ensuring technical and commercial success.
• Develop methodologies and schedules for underground cable installation.
• Act as a key client interface, supporting technical reviews, project updates, and stakeholder engagement.
• Effectively communicate technical concepts and project progress to clients and internal teams.
• Prepare and review reports, including option analysis, preliminary design, safe design, and detailed design reports.
• Draft procurement specifications and perform technical evaluations.
• Conduct root cause analysis for underground cable failures.
• Create and verify detailed construction design drawings.
• Contribute to the estimation and preparation of multidisciplinary tenders and proposals.
• Build and maintain strong client relationships, actively promoting the company’s expertise.

Technical Requirements:

• Tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering.
• Chartered Engineer (CPEng) or working towards certification.
• Advanced understanding of Underground Cable Design and proficiency in specialist software, including:
• CYMCAP, Simcap, PSCAD, MicroStation, AutoCAD, and CDGS.
• Expertise in cable system design, including:
• Current ratings as per Australian Standards.
• Forced ventilation design for cable tunnels.
• Impressed voltage calculations.
• Emergency, cyclic & short-term overload ratings.
• Cable crossing ratings.
• Producing bonding diagrams.
• Cable pulling and laying design.
