CALLOUT to all Media Advisers!
This is a pivotal leadership role with a large state government media unit, responsible for coordinating all media responses, interviews and press conferences for the statewide public health system including the corporate, local health networks, the Rural Support Service and shared services.
Working in a fast-paced environment as part of a supportive team, this role involves leading the research, development and implementation of media strategies, responses and crisis communications, working collaboratively with the Media Manager and senior leaders on a broad range of plans, programs, campaigns and services.
Duties and responsibilities will include:
- Lead and manage the development, implementation and evaluation of proactive and reactive communication strategies for projects and programs of work for the Department.
- Coordinate, plan and deliver media activities including press conferences, interviews, background, events, proactive and reactive statements, holding lines, pitches, talking points, run throughs, media training, issues management, advice, media releases and briefings.
- Provide expert strategic media advice to senior staff on all aspects of engagement and media activities.
- Ensure that SA Health maintains high and consistent standards in relation to compliance with whole of Government Policies and Procedures and SA Health’s Communications Policies.
- Coordinate, manage and provide effective leadership to day-to-day communications activities and operations of a team of Media Advisers.
- Undertake State Emergency Media related duties as required.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with Department Executive staff, the Minister’s Office and Local Health Network executive and communications teams.

Ideally you will possess:
- Tertiary qualification in communications, public relations, media, arts, government or similar qualification/experience.
- Proven ability to write to a range of audiences with an emphasis on detail, accuracy and plain English, and to apply highly developed liaison, negotiation and verbal communication skills.
- Proven ability to work effectively under pressure, meet deadlines and adapt to changing priorities.
- Demonstrated ability and judgement in providing strategic solutions to complex media issues.
- Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to use judgement, significant delegated authority and initiative in providing expert internal and external communications advice.
- Demonstrated ability to identify media and public relations opportunities and initiate relevant stories and strategies to gain leverage from these opportunities.
