The role
Our Federal Government client is seeking an experienced Principal DevOps Engineer who will operate under broad direction to lead highly complex initiatives that drive quality outcomes. This position requires a high level of autonomy and expertise, engaging in advanced problem-solving and issue management within the organization’s core functions. The role will involve making strategic decisions and providing high-level advice and support to senior leadership.
The Principal DevOps Engineer will collaborate closely with key business stakeholders and our local full-stack team to support and enhance project development. The role is also responsible for managing critical internal and external stakeholder relationships, representing, and negotiating to promote the agency’s objectives across various forums.
- Leading the design, development, deployment, and support of the Agency’s Cloud & Data Infrastructure.
- Prioritizing and managing the work queue to ensure timely delivery of key initiatives.
- Ensuring that all solutions adhere to integration best practices.
- Collaborating with business stakeholders to achieve desired outcomes.
- Playing a key leadership role in project teams, utilising an agile development framework.
- Engaging with stakeholders to define project requirements, set priorities, and deliver results.
The Essential Requirements
- 1. Extensive hands-on experience with AWS infrastructure and services, with proven ability to design, implement, and manage scalable cloud solutions.
2. Strong experience in building and deploying DevOps practices, tools, and continuous delivery pipelines, including GitLab, GitHub, Artifactory, and Jira, to streamline development workflows.
3. Expertise in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform for automating infrastructure provisioning and management.
4. Proficiency with version control systems like Git, combined with a solid understanding of agile development methodologies to support collaborative, iterative development.
5. Ability to write and maintain moderately complex code across multiple programming languages, including Python, JavaScript, and Golang.
6. In-depth experience with containerization, cluster deployment, and orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes, ensuring efficient application delivery and management.
