Randstad Recruitment has partnered with a highly respected local Victorian Council in Melbourne’s western suburbs to recruit a PMO Project Manager with strong experience in engineering, architecture, or consultancy (built environment). This role offers a rare opportunity for a senior-level project leader to influence strategic delivery while managing a skilled team of Project Managers and Engineers.
Please note: Applications from IT project managers will not be considered. This role requires experience in building infrastructure projects.
About the Role
This is a leadership position within the Project Management Office (PMO), focused on the initiation, planning, and strategic oversight of capital works projects — including civic buildings, public infrastructure, and community assets. You will provide hands-on guidance from project brief through to delivery handover.
What You’ll Be Doing:
... - Develop and manage project plans aligned with PMO guidelines and Council objectives
- Oversee the transition of projects into the Capital Delivery team
- Provide leadership and mentoring to Project Managers and technical staff
- Continuously improve the PM Framework, tools, and reporting systems
- Analyse project trends and performance, and implement data-driven improvements
- Prepare business cases, budgets, and capital works proposals
- Ensure compliance with financial, OHS, procurement, and stakeholder engagement standards
- Deliver clear reporting and recommendations to senior stakeholders and committees
What You’ll Bring:
- Proven PMO, Project Management, or Program Management experience in the built environment
- Tertiary qualifications in Engineering, Architecture, Project Management, or a related discipline
- Experience leading complex building infrastructure projects (feasibility to delivery)
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and team leadership abilities
- Ability to develop and refine project frameworks, systems, and governance tools
- Demonstrated understanding of government infrastructure delivery and capital works programs
- Strong analytical, financial, and reporting skills
- Experience leading large-scale community engagement initiatives is highly desirable
