Paralegal – First Nations Legal Support

With multiple roles available in Brisbane CBD, this not-for-profit organisation provides expert legal and administrative services to Traditional Owners pursuing native title rights and interests.
About the Role:
As a Paralegal, you will work closely with a qualified legal practitioner to provide comprehensive legal support to Traditional Owners. You will assist in legal research, document preparation, case management, and community engagement. This is an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to First Nations communities while developing your legal expertise in native title law.
Key Responsibilities:
... - Conduct research on case law and claim groups.
- Assist in preparing legal documents, affidavits, court applications, and reports.
- Transcribe legal proceedings and meetings.
- File and serve court documents, manage legal correspondence, and liaise with external counsel.
- Support the preparation and coordination of meetings, workshops, and legal conferences.
- Take meeting minutes and maintain accurate records in compliance with information management standards.
- Work collaboratively with an interdisciplinary team to manage cases efficiently.
- Engage with the organisation’s holistic approach to legal service delivery.
Skills & Experience:
- Excellent attention to detail, write and speak with ease.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and legal documentation.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise multiple tasks.
- Self-motivated with the ability to meet deadlines in a busy environment.
- Willingness to travel across Queensland as required, including some weekends if needed.
- A current open driver’s licence.
Desirable:
- Prior experience in a paralegal or legal support role.
- Understanding of the cultural, political, and social issues affecting First Nations people.
