Mount Alexander Shire Council is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Building Surveyor to carry out the statutory role of Municipal Building Surveyor across both Mount Alexander Shire and Hepburn Shire Council. You will play a critical role in providing strategic leadership and planning to ensure that Mount Alexander Shire Council and Hepburn Shire Council’s building services are provided in accordance with relevant Council plans and strategies, and within budgetary requirements and constraints.
Key responsibilities
- Carry out functions empowered to the Municipal Building Surveyor under the Building Act 1993 (the Act) and Building Regulations 2018 (Regulations), for illegal building works or other offences.
- To play a leading role in ensuring that all relevant Building Acts, Regulations and Codes are implemented, enforced, and adhered to relating to buildings and other structures, and that Council’s exposure to risks of liability in building surveying determinations and decisions that are made are minimised.
- Fulfil delegated Council duties as required under the Act and Regulations, and in accordance with the Code of Conduct for building surveyors as mandated by the Victorian Building Association.
Skills & Experience
- Registration in Victoria as a Building Surveyor Unlimited (BS-U)
- An excellent understanding of the interpretation and application of the Building Act and Regulations, Building Code of Australia Volumes 1 and 2, referenced standards and current building practices.
- Proven commitment to a high standard of customer service and enthusiasm for serving all stakeholders, incorporating the capacity to diplomatically handle customer complaints.
