This is a brand new position in the company due to the strong pipeline of upcoming work and the existing Estimating team needing some extra support. There are 3 other Estimators in the team who will be able to support you in providing accurate tenders and building relationships with your clients, to ensure repeat business is achieved. You will be based in their office Mon-Fri.
The Role:
As an Junior Estimator based in the Head Office, your job will be working closely with the Estimating team to establish good working relationships with new and existing clients and put forward the most competitive tenders. It's an exciting opportunity for an Estimator to progress in your career with a growing builder with structured systems and processes in place. The Junior Estimator will play a crucial role in project planning and execution process by providing accurate cost estimates for new projects. This position is ideal for someone who is detail-oriented, eager to learn, and has a strong interest in construction estimation.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in preparing detailed and accurate cost estimates for commercial construction projects
- Analyse project plans, specifications, and other documents to understand project scope and requirements
- Collaborate with senior estimators and project managers to gather necessary information for accurate estimations
- Obtain and evaluate quotes from suppliers and subcontractors
- Participate in pre-bid meetings and site visits to gain a comprehensive understanding of project requirements
- Maintain and update estimating databases and records
- Support in the development of project budgets and schedules
- Communicate effectively with team members, clients, and stakeholders throughout the estimating process
- Stay updated on industry trends, construction materials, and best practices.
Skills & experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying or a construction related field
- Minimum 1-2+ years experience as an Estimator in Sydney, so you are familiar with the local subcontractors and processes
- A good understanding of the Tender and Estimation process, with the ability to learn quickly and be adaptable to clients requirements
- Understanding of RFI's, BOQ's and ability to read drawings & measurements
- Extremely high attention to detail and quality of works
- Familiarity with Estimating software CostX and Bluebeam is a plus
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Eagerness to learn and grow in a fast-paced construction environment
- Unfortunately if you have no experience working in Australia or have only worked for a subcontractor, you will not be the right fit for this role.
