We are looking for a seasoned Engineering Manager to join a Queensland Rail Organisation, ideally someone with a contractor background and experience in on-the-ground, hands-on management. This is a key role where you will be responsible for ensuring the effective delivery of complex engineering projects, working with a dedicated team of around 35 professionals. While specific industry experience in rail is not essential, experience in structure, buildings, tunnel, fencing, or security is highly valued.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate directly with the Delivery Manager to ensure project objectives are met efficiently and effectively.
- Take an active, hands-on approach to address issues on the ground and ensure smooth delivery of engineering tasks.
- Work closely with contractors to ensure high standards and quality across all engineering elements.
- Manage the balance between quality and delivery timelines, knowing when to compromise for the best outcome.
- Oversee the QA completions process and ensure the timely acceptance of assets.
- Provide oversight of projects, with a focus on maintaining high standards without needing to be the perfect organiser.
- Help guide the team and make informed decisions, without the direct responsibility for line management.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Contractor experience is a strong advantage
- Ideally, you are a Senior Design Manager with a background in consultancy and Design & Construct (D&C) experience.
- RPEQ accreditation is preferred.
- While rail experience is not essential, exposure to structures, buildings, tunnels, fencing, or security will be highly beneficial.
- Experience in QA management and asset acceptance processes.
- A practical approach to problem-solving and a strong sense of when to compromise to keep projects moving forward.
