Role: EL1 Specialist Technical Accounting Advisor
Location: Richmond
Contract: 12-month contract with possible extension

... Role Purpose
As a Specialist Technical Accounting Advisor, you will support the Director of Financial Reporting in achieving best-practice financial reporting compliance and process improvements. Your expertise will ensure the agency’s financial performance remains strong and of the highest quality.
You will provide technical accounting advice, develop critical assessments on contemporary accounting issues, and maintain compliance with Financial Reporting Rules (FRRs) and Australian Accounting Standards Board (AASB) standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide specialist technical accounting advice to ensure compliance with government accounting frameworks.
- Assist in the development of policy papers and critical assessments on accounting issues.
- Collaborate with external auditors to facilitate audit interactions and financial statement reviews.
- Ensure alignment with AASB standards, Commonwealth Accounting rules, and AUASB auditing standards.
- Contribute to process improvements to enhance financial reporting integrity and efficiency.
Essential Criteria:
- Senior-level experience in government accounting frameworks (Commonwealth or State/Territory jurisdiction).
- Strong exposure to financial statement auditing and engagement with external auditors.
- Proven ability to develop technical accounting policies and reports.
- Experience in supporting organisations in addressing contemporary accounting challenges.
Knowledge Required:
- AASB Accounting Standards & Pronouncements.
- Commonwealth (or State/Territory) Accounting rules and guidelines.
- AUASB Auditing Standards & Pronouncements.
- Best-practice accounting principles, ideally gained from a large government department or similar organisation.
Desirable Criteria:
- Degree-level qualification in Accounting, Finance, or Auditing.
- Full membership and professional accreditation with CPA Australia or Chartered Accountants Australia & New Zealand.
- 10+ years of senior-level experience in accounting and/or auditing within large organisations.
Australian Citizenship is a requirement for this role.
