... About the Team
The Participant Safeguarding Initiative has been established to develop and implement an enhanced participant risk and safeguarding approach for the Agency. This initiative responds to agency recommendations, findings from the Disability Royal Commission, and the implementation of the Agency’s Participant Safeguarding Policy. The team collaborates closely with reform initiatives and branches across the agency to develop evidence-based policy informed by people with lived experience of disability, expert service designers, operational considerations, and relevant legal frameworks.
About the Role
We are seeking an EL1 Assistant Director, Policy, with expertise in policy development, stakeholder engagement, and strategic analysis. You will be instrumental in developing and interpreting policy within a complex and sensitive organisational and political landscape. This role requires a proactive and analytical approach to policy development, ensuring contemporary, relevant, and evidence-informed outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development and interpretation of policy in a specialised area requiring a detailed understanding of sensitive organisational and political issues.
- Develop, manage, and deliver projects that may have an agency-wide impact.
- Contribute to the preparation and coordination of complex inputs into policy formulation.
- Plan and lead stakeholder engagement activities to inform policy development.
- Develop complex policy documents for review and publication.
- Engage with data, evidence, and stakeholders to ensure policies are contemporary and evidence-informed.
- Prepare, review, and advise on policy reports, briefing papers, Ministerial correspondence, Cabinet submissions, and discussion papers.
Essential Criteria
- Demonstrated experience in developing and clearly communicating balanced policy and strategic advice, evaluating ambiguous and incomplete information, factoring in risks, and considering the organisational and political context.
- Strong ability to analyse and apply data and evidence to develop solutions to complex problems.
- Experience working with people with lived experience and a broad range of stakeholders to inform policy or program development.
- Experience in managing stakeholder relationships, including leading policy development through multidisciplinary groups.
- Capacity to exercise autonomy and initiative in managing work programs and contribute to efficient resource management within the team through clear and proactive work planning.
