As an EL1 Assistant Director, Agency Policy, you will work closely with reform initiatives and branches across the agency to shape policy to enhance participant safety and well-being. Your leadership will be instrumental in:
- Empowering the Agency to proactively identify and assess potential risks
- Cultivating a deeper understanding of the unique needs and experiences of people with disability, ensuring that safeguards are tailored and responsive to individual circumstances.
- Fostering a culture of continuous improvement, equipping participants, support networks, staff, and partners with the knowledge and skills to effectively identify, assess, and respond to risks.
On offer is a full time 12-month labour hire contract, with the possibility of further extension. The agency offers a flexible work environment that promotes work-life balance and is located within walking distance of public transport links.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development of and interpretation of policy in a specialised area of work that requires detailed understanding and consideration of sensitive organisational and political issues.
- Develop, manage and deliver projects that may have an agency wide impact.
- Participate in and contribute towards the preparation and coordination of complex inputs into policy formulation.
- Plan and lead engagement activities.
- Develop complex policy documents for review and publication.
- Engage with a range of data, evidence and stakeholders to ensure that policy development is contemporary, relevant and evidence informed.
- Prepare, review and advise on policy reports, briefing papers, speeches, Ministerial correspondence, Cabinet submissions and discussion papers.
- Model the APS and Agency Values, contribute to the strategic direction of the Initiative and actively promote a safe, positive and high-performing culture.
The ideal candidate for these roles will demonstrate:
- Demonstrated experience in developing and clearly communicating balanced policy and strategic advice, evaluating ambiguous and incomplete information, factoring in risks and being sensitive to the organisational and political context.
- Strong ability to analyse and apply data and evidence to develop solutions to complex problems.
- Experience working with people with lived experience and a broad range of stakeholders to inform policy or program development.
- Experience in managing stakeholder relationships, including leading policy development through multidisciplinary groups.
- Capacity to exercise autonomy and initiative in your program of work and to contribute to the efficient management of resources within your team through clear and proactive work planning.
The following will be held in high regard in addition to the above;
- Significant disability, social policy, and/or social insurance policy experience working within government, government agencies or in the disability sector.
