About the Opportunity:
Dedicated to enhancing the health and well-being of all Australians, the Department is seeking skilled professionals to join an established team driving the implementation of a new initiative. This initiative aims to support individuals experiencing or at risk of mild mental ill-health or transient distress, playing a crucial role in the transition towards an integrated stepped care model for Australia's mental health system.
Successful candidates will be part of a diverse and dynamic team across Canberra, Melbourne, and Brisbane, working in a fast-paced, flexible environment to deliver meaningful outcomes. The team is structured into two key areas—Policy & Governance and Evaluation—with staff expected to contribute across both as needed.
These are 10-month labour hire contracts, with the possibility of extension. The full-time roles offer a hybrid, flexible work environment that promotes work-life balance and are based in Melbourne CBD, within walking distance of major public transport links.

Key responsibilities of the role could include:
... - Project and Program Management – Support and contribute to project and program delivery, including large-scale procurement activities.
- National Communications Campaign – Assist in the design and implementation of a national communications campaign.
- Accreditation and Training – Contribute to the development and establishment of accreditation and training requirements.
- Stakeholder Engagement – Manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including overseeing a public inbox.
- Reporting and Risk Management – Provide input into reporting, risk management, and financial activities.
- Data Analysis – Collect and analyze data to assess and report on project outcomes.
- Strategic Advice – Provide informed advice on program management to Divisional executives and support Ministerial, Cabinet, and Parliamentary processes.
- Policy Development – Analyze complex issues and contribute to the preparation and coordination of policy inputs.
- Ministerial and Executive Support – Draft, review, and advise on policy reports, briefing papers, speeches, Ministerial correspondence, Cabinet submissions, and discussion papers for senior staff.
- Corporate Management – Support corporate governance, secretariat functions, planning, and reporting processes.
- Workplace Culture – Actively contribute to fostering a positive, inclusive, and supportive workplace environment.
- Leadership (EL1 Level) – Lead key activities based on experience and skillset, providing guidance to junior staff.
Key capabilities for this role include:
- Highly motivated, flexible and resilient
- Good judgement, initiative and analytical/problem-solving skills
- Ability to work under pressure and manage competing priorities and delivering work to a high standard with good attention to detail
- Experience in project/program management and/or policy development and advice - specific experience within public health and mental health projects/policy will be held in high regard
- Ability to build and manage productive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Strong written communication skills
- Demonstrated experience in line with State/Federal Government work level standards.
Contract Details:
- Australian Citizenship Required
- Contract Duration: 10 months
- Flexible Working: Available. However, 2-3 days will be required in the office
- Office Location: Melbourne CBD
Hourly Rates:
- EL1: $80 - $85 + Super
- APS6: $60 - $67 + Super
- APS5: $55 - $57 + Super
Security Clearance: A baseline security clearance is a mandatory requirement for successful candidates. All candidates are required to hold a current Baseline security clearance or obtain one prior to their contract commencing.
