Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Master Data Management - Ensure the integrity, transformation, and interoperability of environmental data by managing vocabularies, typologies, and data domains, while embedding robust data governance frameworks to ensure compliance and ongoing implementation.
- Environmental Data Infrastructure and Patterns of Use - Assess the department’s data infrastructure to identify scalable architectures, integration points, and performance optimizations, while synthesising patterns of data use to improve efficiency and future data needs.
- Data Modelling and Design Frameworks - Develop and implement a common framework for data modelling, including design templates and tools, and coordinate the application of analysis and modelling techniques to establish, modify, and maintain data structures across various systems.
- Information Handling and Protection - Ensure the availability, integrity, searchability, and security of environmental data by implementing information and records management policies, protecting data assets, and assessing data-related risks.
- National Supply Chain Uplift - Support national data infrastructure reforms by addressing current and future environmental data and information needs and ensuring seamless data flows across supply chains for policy and regulatory requirements.
- Spatial Data Management - Develop and optimise geospatial data handling, including indexing, query capabilities, and standards compliance, to improve interoperability, analysis, and decision-making for spatial datasets.
- Data Integration and Interoperability - Facilitate the seamless integration and ingestion of spatial and non-spatial data from internal and external sources by developing interoperability frameworks and enabling efficient data sharing across platforms.
- Data Workflow and Automation - Enhance data workflows by implementing automated data updates, reducing manual processes, and streamlining publishing workflows to ensure timely and accurate data delivery.
- Data Lineage and Provenance - Develop fit-for-purpose data lineage capture to track processing history metadata, ensuring reproducibility, transparency, and trusted provenance of authoritative data products delivered by the department.
- Policy and Compliance - Embed data design into governance structures to ensure compliance with enterprise and solution architecture standards, including security protocols, while supporting technical planning and design for data-related projects, managing risks, and maintaining compliance in data governance practices.
Technical Skills
Strong understanding of data modelling, data integration, & data transformation processes. Strong knowledge of geospatial formats, geospatial indexing, & query capabilities. Experience in data governance, metadata management, & data lineage tracking. Experience in automating data workflows to improve data accessibility & data quality. Excellent communication & presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders. Proactive & innovative mindset.
