Randstad is proud to be partnering with a well-regarded Local Government organisation in Melbourne’s northern suburbs to recruit an experienced Accounts Payable Officer for a short-term contract. This is a great opportunity to step into a busy and supportive finance team and contribute to the efficient delivery of payment services across the organisation.
About the Role
This position is responsible for the accurate and timely processing of invoices, payments, and supplier account management. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, confident working across finance systems, and capable of handling vendor queries and internal stakeholder engagement in a professional and efficient manner.
Key Responsibilities
- Process supplier invoices and ensure accuracy and compliance with council policies and GST legislation
- Prepare and administer weekly and monthly EFT payment runs, including control reports and authorisation checks
- Reconcile supplier statements and investigate any outstanding items
- Monitor the Accounts Payable mailbox and respond to queries in a timely manner
- Maintain up-to-date supplier data in the finance system (NAV) in collaboration with procurement
- Support vendors with payment and invoice queries
- Ensure complete and accurate records are maintained in the Council’s electronic document system
- Contribute to continuous improvement of AP processes and data integrity
About You
- Previous experience in a high-volume Accounts Payable role, ideally within local government or a large organisation
- Strong attention to detail and time management skills
- Excellent communication skills and customer service focus
- Sound knowledge of Accounts Payable systems and processes, including electronic funds transfer (EFT)
- Experience using financial systems (NAV experience highly regarded)
- Confident working independently as well as part of a team
- Familiarity with GST requirements and financial coding standards
